PhD students Mabon Elis and Emily Hawkes represented the John Innes Centre at the 2015 Royal Norfolk Show, showcasing the research that’s being done on improving yield and seed quality in peas. They were also trying to encourage people to eat more peas and realise how nutritious and environmentally beneficial they are. High value snacks in the form of wasabi peas were available for people to try.
The Royal Norfolk Show is the county’s biggest event of the year and attracts tens of thousands of visitors from not just the region but all over the UK. It’s a time to see Norfolk at its best, to network, to do business, to learn about Norfolk’s wonderful landscape and the importance of farming and the countryside.
With 650 trade stands, over 3000 animals and hundreds of attractions, visitors can expect to see leading showjumpers, breeders, businesses and football stars, meet growers, farmers and scientists, and learn about new technologies and the skills needed for tomorrow’s agriculture.
