First NRPDTP PIPS student arrives in China
Rob Bellow, a PhD student at the John Innes Centre, is the first of our DTP students to undertake a PIPS in China. He will be spending the next three months at the Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology as part of the CAS-JIC Centre of Excellence for Plant and Microbial Sciences (CEPAMS).
It has been said that science is not finished until it is communicated. Excellent research can produce excellent results, but the core message can get lost in data. Being able to communicate a story clearly is an essential skill for today’s scientists, a skill that often gets overlooked. Rob will formulate and deliver workshops on science communication, as well as assisting host lab members through one-on-one’s and drop in sessions. In between preparing and running these workshops, Rob will work in the lab, learning tissue culture techniques as well as being available for student project troubleshooting and for sessions on improving English, both spoken and written.
