Project: Developing synthetic biology tools to manipulate antibiotic production
Supervisor: Dr Matt Hutchings
I have always loved science because it allowed me to question both what is known and what is yet unknown. This drew me to study Molecular Biology and Genetics at the University of East Anglia.
Whilst studying here, I was selected to be part of the NRP-UEA iGEM (International Genetically Engineered Machine competition) team; I was introduced to synthetic biology and all its possibilities.
Synthetic biology allows me to utilise my undergraduate training and apply it in a creative manner. This combined with the excellent range of facilities and courses available made UEA the perfect setting to conduct my PhD research, whilst the integrated internship gives me the opportunity to explore the world of science in an industrial setting.
