As a PhD student at the John Innes Centre I have the chance to receive a multidisciplinary training, to learn more about Streptomyces biology and biochemistry, and to broaden my research skills“.

Supervisor: Professor Mark Buttner
Project: Making Novel Antibiotics by Genetic Engineering

I finished my BSc in Biology and MSc in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Bremen (Germany). Especially in the last two years during my MSc I was able to actively develop and contribute to research projects and it became clear to me that I wished to continue studying for a PhD in microbial biology.

The DTP programme at the Norwich Research Park (UK) gives me the opportunity to contribute to excellent research, to improve and broaden my skills, and to gain international experiences. I have chosen to do my research topic at the John Innes Centre, working on development of novel antibiotics by rational modifications using biochemical and genetic approaches.
